Stok Kangri, located in the picturesque region of Ladakh, is one of the most intriguing places on earth. Leh, the capital of Ladakh, is the most adventurous location for trekkers and is located between 3500 and 3800 metres above sea level. It is renowned for its citizens' generosity and assistance. Since hiking in Leh is the best option for trekking in India, tourists from all over the world travel there. One such peak that has experienced significant growth in popularity in recent years is Stok Kangri. This journey embraces desolate settings and gives trekkers the chance to fully experience the Himalayan range, providing an expansive view of the range.
The entire terrain reaches a sublime beauty in the winter. The trail as a whole features numerous ridges, allowing you to feel the abrupt change in nature. You can see the complete panorama of Zanskar and the Indus Valley from Stok Kangri Peak.
day 1 Arrival at Leh
When you arrive in Leh, your trek to Stok Kangri begins. From Delhi, you can either fly or drive to Leh. Flying is a superior alternative because it saves you a lot of time and energy. Traveling by car may take a long time because you must first visit Srinagar or Manali before heading to Leh. You can spend a day getting acclimated to the weather in Leh.
day 2 Leh (acclimatization day)
The second day is for acclimatisation. This is a good day to get acquainted with the town and acclimate to the weather. You can appreciate Leh's cultural and natural beauties. Leh is a culturally diverse city. There are dozens of monasteries and old temples to see. They are scattered across the city. As a result, you'd have ample time to explore the area in a single day. You can spend the night in Leh. The hotels are easily accessible and reasonably priced.
day 3 Leh - Stok Village - Chang Ma
Trek distance: 6 kms | Trek duration: 3-4 hours
This is a day for a beautiful journey and a fantastic trekking adventure. If you decide to travel through this area, it is one of the most beautiful sites to visit. The weather is perfect for the summer. You may feel as though you are in the centre of heaven at any given time. The day starts with a drive to the village of Stok. The journey from Leh would take you through many intriguing and beautiful landscapes. The trip to Stok village is interesting and full of natural beauty and lush green trees.
day 4 Chang Ma - Mankorma
Trek distance: 4 kms | Trek duration: 2 hours
Hike up to Mankorma from Chang Ma; this day will show you the full splendour of Ladhak. People discover why it is known as the frigid desert. The entire trek takes you across Ladakh's dismal grey landscape. You will pass through 3-4 minor streams while trekking, it is a fairly easy trip along the river, and you will enjoy the overnight stay in tents.
day 5 Mankorma - Base camp
Distance: 5 kms trek | Trek duration: 5-6 hours
You'll arrive at the base camp after a few hours of hiking. It is situated on grassland. This area has various bodies of water, including lakes and streams. During the day, you can explore the highest peaks of the campsite and enjoy the scenery. Gulap Kangri, Parcha Kangri, and a slew of other spectacular peaks may be found here. You can also unwind at the base camp to ensure that everyone is rested and prepared for the next day's trek and sightseeing. As the environment changes dramatically in the coming days, you may encounter thin air and a lack of oxygen. You'll have plenty of time to acclimate to the altitude and temperature here.
day 6 Rest day
It is essentially a day spent preparing for the next journey and learning about the chances and challenges that lie ahead. You would appreciate spending more time roaming about and getting to know the region. Your trip leader and guide will tell you of all terrain differences. You must have sufficient knowledge and experience to negotiate the mountains. You may have to walk through falling snow at times. As a result, it is vital that you are aware of the weather and surrounding circumstances. It is also a day in which you should get plenty of rest in order to be properly prepared for the approaching trip.
day 7 Base camp - Stok Kangri- Base camp
Distance: 8 kms each way | Duration: 11-12 hours
Because this is a long climb, you should be mentally and psychologically prepared. Before ascending steep slopes to the summit ridge, the path passes through glaciers. It would take between 7 and 8 hours for normal climbers. Slow climbers may require an additional 2 to 3 hours. You should reach the summit of the ridge at the start of the trek after a couple of hours. The top offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. To the north, the Karakoram mountain range may be seen. In the north, the Saser Kangri, along with the Karakoram and Zanskar ranges, dominate the sky.
day 7 Base camp - Stok Village - Drive to Leh
Distance: 15 kms trek, 15 kms drive | Duration: 6 hours trek, 40 mins drive
After this day, the trek, which included high altitude trekking, mountaineering, and expedition, would come to an end. However, before the day ends, you will see a lot of snow-clad beauty and a memorable view of mountain ranges. As the sun rises, you must begin your return journey from Base Camp to Leh. The journey back may be challenging, and you must proceed with caution and accuracy. This location can rekindle the excitement of Ladakh trekking. Stok village is the trek's last destination. You will have to drive from Stok village to Leh.
Trekking may be exciting and enjoyable. However, it is also physically taxing and calls for strong physical condition.
