overview:

Chanshal pass is located in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, also known as Chanshal Ghati. This pass links to beautiful villages of Shimla Dodra and kawar. With an Altitude above 4000 meters this valley will let you experience the majestic view of Shivalik range and western Garhwal ranges (bandarpooch , Swargarohini), Pir Panjal and baspa ranges. Accessibility to chanshal had become easier after the completion of road which links Shimla and Rohru town Dodra – Kawar villages of Rupin Valley. This pass remain closed during winter seasons (December – April). This area has some excellent ski slopes. Chanshal pass is famous among off roaders and for Snow sports (snow ride – Skiing). Chanshal is the high altitude motor able pass in Shimla Region.

Trek to Saru tal starts from Chanshal pass. Trail passes through beautiful meadows with picturesque locations and majestic view of Himalayan Ranges. Don’t forget to experience Sunrise and Sunset.

itinerary:

day 1 Shimla – Hatkoti- Rohru- Larot village.

Drive distance: 160 kms | Drive duration: 7-8 Hours

Transfer form shimla early morning to Larot via Kharapathar – Rohru. Sightseeing at local village with local guide. Camping at Larot.

Morning sunshine at Chanshal

day 2 Larot – Chanshal – Saru tal

Distance: 10 kms drive and 4 kms trek | Duration: 1 hour drive and 2 hours trek

After breakfast transfer to Chanshal in taxi lunch at Chanshal 2-3 hrs trek to Saru tal . Camping at Saru.

day 3 Saru tal – Chanshal

Trek distance: 4 kms | Trek duration: 2 hours

Back to chanshal . Short trek to Chanshal top and temple. Overnight stay at Chanshal.

day 4 Chanshal – Rohru – Kufri – Shimla.

Drive distance: 160 kms | Trek duration: 6-7 hours

Start from Chanshal early morning after breakfast and transfer to Shimla.

Note – Please pack clothes according to your needs and in layers and preferably fleece clothing line. Light in weight so it gets easy to carry also keeps you warm in cold temperature.

tips to stay fit for long treks:

Trekking may be exciting and enjoyable. However, it is also physically taxing and calls for strong physical condition.

For challenging and moderately difficult trails:

  • Begin training 4-5 weeks before you go for trail.
  • Set a training schedule.
  • Cardio 30 -45 minutes (4-5) days a week.
  • Strength training 2 days a week.
  • Once a week try to complete day hike only if possible.
  • Start with a distance of 8-10 kms.
  • Jogging
  • Cycling
  • Stair climbing
  • Swimming
  • Work on your balance.
  • Work on your stamina.
  • Start with an elevation of 1000-1500 Meters.
  • Practice carrying 8-10 kg in your day hike for self sufficient trekking.
  • For best stamina results say no to drugs.
  • Practice uphill trek by stair climbing every day.
